Flooring Cost Calculator
Florida flooring installation runs $3 to $25 per square foot installed, depending on material and tier. For a typical 1,500-sqft FL home re-floor, plan on $5,000 to $25,000 — with mid-tier LVP landing around $8,000–$12,000 and porcelain tile at $14,000–$22,000. This calculator factors in material, tier, removal of old flooring, and underlayment so you see the all-in install cost (not just the per-sqft sticker price).

How to use this calculator
- Enter the total square footage you're flooring. For a whole-house refloor, use heated/cooled square footage minus bathrooms (which are usually tile already).
- Pick a material — LVP is the FL default for moisture resistance; tile for wet areas; engineered hardwood for a premium look in low-moisture rooms.
- Choose a tier — budget for rentals; mid for most homeowner installs; premium for designer materials and heavy-traffic durability.
- Toggle 'remove old flooring' if you're tearing out carpet, tile, or older hardwood — that's $1–$2.50 per sqft just for demo and disposal.
- Toggle 'include underlayment' for vapor barrier and foam pad — recommended for any plank flooring over slab in Florida.
Calculator FAQs
Why is tile more expensive to install than LVP if the material costs are similar?
Tile install requires thinset, leveling, grout, and 2–3× the labor hours of LVP — every tile is set individually, joints have to be exact, and the floor needs 24–48 hours to cure before grouting. LVP is click-lock, drops in fast, and a typical 1,500-sqft job takes 2–3 days versus 4–6 days for tile. The labor differential is the real cost gap.
Do I need to level the slab before installing flooring?
If your concrete slab is more than 3/16 inch out of flat over 10 feet (which is most older FL homes), you need self-leveling compound before any floating floor (LVP, laminate, hardwood). That's typically $0.80–$2.00 per sqft of additional cost. Tile is more forgiving but still benefits from a flat substrate.
